I am woman, hear me...Plunge?
Oct. 22nd, 2007 07:21 amI had two notable events happen to me yesterday. First I got my PA motorcycle license and second I plunged a toilet successfully for the first time ever. I'm not sure which is more exciting to me.
For the last nine years, one by one all the successful plungers in my life have moved out. Including my youngest daughter, just last month. I knew the day would come when I would be faced by a clogged toidy but figured, I just wouldn't clog the thing so not to worry. Uh-huh. I am here today to say I faced the challenge head on, I was relentless, I pictured Geoffry at the beginning of Slings and Arrows and just went for it. (Cue Rocky theme song and picture me running up and down the stairs in the house with my dog barking excitedly running in circles.) Oh yeah, I'm unstoppable, pun intended.
Now for the first item, which I must say had the rosy glow dimmed a bit by the plumbing issue, just WOO HOO!! I've toyed with the idea of riding a motorcycle all my life. First, "Girls don't do that". Then, well, I have kids and hubby hasn't shown any interest. When youngest daughter left last month I had to step back and ask myself, just what the heck I thought I was going to do with the rest of my life? This was one of the answers that came back.
Sooo...I signed up with Harley Davidsen to take their Riders Edge new riders course. It is a 5 day course that teaches both knowledge and riding skills. They teach you the basics from actually GETTING ON the bike to riding over 2x4s. At the end, they test you on the skills you've learned and if you pass, you get your license. This has to rate right up there with Army basic training and natural child birth (times 3), as some of my most exciting and notable achievements. Yeah yeah, I lead a sheltered life, what can I say.
