First the great.
I love my computer and all the techo things that are out and about these days. However, tech and me have a very rocky relationship. Example, I have all these neat wireless devices around the house. When I bought them, and connected them to my router, they all worked. Life was great and fun and I felt really good that I had gotten everything connected. Then someone pointed out that my router wasn't secure. Huh? So much fiddling around later, I had a secure router but could not connect my laptop except by cable, or my PS3 or my Kindle except on sunny days when the wind was from a certain direction. Ok, that last one isn't quite true, but the point is my connection was spotty at best.
Then on Sunday, I had had enough. I wanted to watch something on Netflix and NOT sit at my computer, so I went out and bought a new router. It's a Netgear as opposed to the Linksys (or whatever its name was) and I knew I had good luck with that brand before. Easier directions? I don't know. It's really cool though and has two bandwidth thingies and a guest setting so folks visiting don't have to know your REAL password. Anyway, I did it! I installed it and got everything connected and working including Netflix! Woohoo!! This is a major achievement for me and there were no frantic calls to Daughter-Type to beg Boyfriend to come and bail me out.
This leads to the WTF was I thinking section.
So now I had a fully functional PS3. I realized I had old PS1 games laying around and decided to pop one in to see if I could play. Then I realized, that I didn't want to play old '90's games when there was a whole new gaming universe out there waiting to be explored. So I bought Skyrim. Holy moly! What a game and I'm barely out of the tutorial area. Took me two bloody hours to do that as I'm an PC MMO kind of gal and haven't had a PS controller in my hot little hands in a long time. So I sort of had to relearn all the commands and just get a feel for moving around.
In my opinion this game would make a kick ass MMO. The idea that you can start as any race/race gender combo and develop any combat/spell skill is a totally new idea for me. I know I'm going to lose myself in this game and will be indulging my alt-itis in a major sort of way just to see what variations I can come up with. And that's the WTFery of it all. I have a game I'm totally immersed in right now, which brings me to...
The good. I love SWTOR! I was bored with WoW long before Cata came out and now that SWTOR is out and revving up for a major patch, I know I'll never go back. My IA Operative is just so much fun to play. He's got a rouge-like combat style with lots of backstabbing and interrupts in addition to some instant shots so that I don't feel like the game play is laggy at all. And he heals. And I'm finding I'm better healing with him, than I ever was as a holy paladin. Although I do miss Protector of the Innocent at times. And I have a female bounty hunter that I'm going to play with darkside choices. She and Mako teamed up on some poor admin slob and the conversation choices had me laughing out loud. IMO, Bioware has done a fantastic job and I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.
And that's my gaming, technology update for today.
