I had this brilliant plan for a sweater for my grandson. I got this nifty camouflage yarn which I thought would be neat for a little boy. I usually knit in the round, though and the pattern the yarn was making just didn't thrill me. So I decided to make it a cardigan. But I really hate sewing on buttons and messing with buttonholes so I thought the zipper was the way to go. Ugh.
I hand sewed the bugger in first and then thought that we're talking about a four year old here and that the zipper was gonna get seriously abused. Then when I went to sew it up on the machine, I discovered my new (six years ago new) machine didn't have a zipper foot. I mean, what kind of sewing machine doesn't come with a zipper foot? But, I fiddled with the feet and various needle positions and got the thing in.
Let me state for the record, once more, NO MORE ZIPPERS! Today I'm please to announce that the zippered sweater has been completely finished and the last second sweater for my granddaughter just needs the underarm stitches done up. Yay! I got'em all done before Christmas. I'm such a good Nanna.
No Z-foot. I couldn't believe it either. I just noticed now because when I bought the maching, I was heavily into quilting and more interested in applique and other fancy stuff.
