Here I Go Again

Someone please stop me!  I'm fascinated by this design.  But I know what will happen because it always happens whenever I start an afghan.  Nothing.  The thing would never get finished.  The colors and designs are calling to me though...

Make a scarf of it!

(And then make four more scarves....and then seam them together)

I know. That just makes too much sense. LoL

I've been looking at sock yarn on Knitpicks.com which is usually reasonably priced. I'm sure it wouldn't make up to be as soft as that handpainted Merino they're using, though.

OMG, that is just gorgeous. But, yes, I suspect that it would take forever. Whether that's good or bad, I suppose, depends on you. ;)

I went right out and bought some sock yarn after work yesterday. Cast 64 stitches on a #2 needle and worked for two hours. At the end, I had about 1 1/2 inches of fabric and discovered a few things.

The pattern is really easy to pick up and even if you don't count in your head (stitch 1, stitch 2, stitch 1...) it is easy to see where you left off by looking at the row beneath. Very handy for me as I tend to get distracted by TV or phone or whatever.

I do not have the proper gauge yet. Will change down to #1 needles for tonight's attempt.

And the biggie, I don't think the yarn I bought is going to work. There wasn't much of a selection at AC Moore which is where I go when I just HAVE TO KNIT NOW!! I just bought one of all the sock yarn they had. The yarn is more of a self-patterning nature than self-striping and that may have something to do with it. As I say, will have to experiment more with it.

Lastly, Knitpicks.com has very reasonable prices. I know this and yet I still have to buy from AC Moore. Talk about banging your head against the wall.
